Seven US companies have been awarded funds for energy storage projects. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has invested the money to move the products from the laboratory into the marketplace.
The technologies include advanced batteries, ultracapacitors which store and discharge energy quickly, fuel cells and control modules which help reduce energy consumption.
They can cut the need for fossil fuels in transportation and create a more efficient energy grid, according to the NYSERDA.
NYSERDA President John B. Rhodes said: “The companies receiving these awards will help create innovative energy storage technology to serve vehicle, building and grid power needs. “Energy storage will factor significantly into development of a resilient, affordable, clean energy system.”
