Optimizing Compressed Air Systems for Southern Industrial Enterprises

22/05/2024

On May 14-15, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), conducted a training course on optimizing compressed air systems in industry.

The training included 54 experts/consultants from industrial promotion and development consulting centers, energy conservation centers (ECCs), energy saving company, and technical staff from industrial enterprises in the southern region, such as cement, rubber, steel, food processing, textiles, plastics, and chemicals.
Participants of the training course.
The course is part of the activities under the awareness-raising and capacity-building program on system optimization of the project " Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems, system optimisation and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises " (IEEP project), funded by the European Union.
Before the training, on May 13, international training expert, Mr. Ian David Moore, the main lecturer of the course, and IEEP project staff conducted field trips to Binh Minh Plastics Joint Stock Company (Long An) and Khai Hoan Rubber - VRG (Binh Duong). These two industrial enterprises, which use compressed air systems, actively participate in training sessions organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and UNIDO under the IEEP project framework.

During the field visits, experts toured the compressed air systems of the two companies and suggested methods and improvements to optimize the compressed air systems (such as avoiding leaks, installing additional inverters, flow meters, arranging compressors with and without inverters more appropriately, setting lower operating pressures, etc.) to maximize energy and operational cost savings.
After the training, both industrial companies and the majority of participants strongly agreed that they had understood the system approach, the method for assessing the energy use of compressed air systems, the optimal operation of compressed air systems, and the opportunities to improve energy efficiency to optimize compressed air systems.
