International co-op on energy saving

02/06/2010

Various bodies in construction have set up energy saving systems in buildings under the Research and Cooperation Program in accordance with protocols with other countries, for instance, cooperation with Bulgaria and Russia in saving energy in buildings; cooperation with Germany in saving energy in construction and reducing consequences of climate change.

To make National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation more efficient, Ministry of Construction has co-operated with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Ministry of Industry and Trade to complete the Master plan for the road-map to energy conservation of Vietnam.

One typical example is Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation, one of biggest energy consumers. This corporation, in cooperation with energy saving counselors has demanded its branches to invest on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM); in detail, these actions include applying many technologies, improving production, using heat from furnace’s emission and reducing energy consumption.

Bringing these solutions to practice would reduce greenhouse effect and cost; improve competitive power and getting a huge amount of foreign currency from selling emission certificates.

Using heat from emission plan is now undergoing in 6 member companies of Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation. Some even take bigger steps when applying more technologies, for example using inverters in high capacity electric fans in saving energy, using lower-quality powdered coal , etc. Some construction companies even use heat from furnace’s emission to dry wooden products, hence reducing greenhouse emission.

Besides the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation, the Ministry of Construction has published the Program on Energy and Resource Efficiency of the Construction Industry, period 2008-2015.
