According to the initial calculation of Vietnam Public Lighting Project, the total power consumption in all lighting fields in the whole country accounts for 25% of commercial power, equivalent to 21,000 billion kWh per year. This rate is relatively high, especially in the current critical shortage of power.

So during the past few years, Vietnam Energy Efficiency Public Light Project (VEEPL), chaired by Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, sponsored by Global Environment Fund (GEF) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), has propagated and encouraged people to apply and develop energy saving public lighting models in Vietnam.

In the framework of VEEPL, the media event is an opportunity for administrators, lighting companies, lighting device producers, corporate and individual consumers in Northern provinces to share information and experiences in applying high efficiency lighting models, especially public lighting ones.

This is also a chance for all levels and branches, professional organizations, businesses and people to enhance the sense of saving energy in lighting, which will lead to applying high efficiency, energy saving and environment-friendly lighting models.

Especially, with this event, the Organizing Committee hopes that with the assistance of the press and central to local radios and televisions, energy saving activities in general and high efficiency lighting in particular will be widely propagated and draw the support and positive participation from the society.

The main activities in the two-day event included conferences and talk-shows which introduced high efficiency lighting models, foreign and domestic experiences in the operation of energy service companies, investment solutions in high efficiency lighting in small and medium cities.

Besides, joining the event, representatives and guests also had an opportunity to join the high efficiency activities exhibition with many products, publications on high efficiency lighting and high efficiency public lighting models which were applied in the region with the support of VEEPL.

At the end of the event, if necessary, lighting companies, producers and units, regions may come to sign contracts and corporate to invest, design and install high efficiency public lighting systems.
