Spanish manufacturer Gamesa’s new 2.5MW turbine prototype has started generating power.
The turbine in Navarre will provide enough electricity to power 2,250 homes every year. It also will prevent more than 6,075 tonnes of carbon emissions and replace the equivalent of 871 tonnes of oil annually. The installation starts the intensive process of validating and certifying the new turbine.

The company claims the longer blade produces 29% more power and lowers the cost of energy by 10% compared to one of its previous models. José Antonio Malumbres, Gamesa’s Chief Technology Officer added the new technology “is changing the cost of wind energy paradigm”.
