On October 12, 2023, in Hanoi, the Energy Conservation Steering Committee Office (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in collaboration with relevant units, organized the launch ceremony of the online competition 'Study on energy efficiency and conservation in 2023'.

The event was attended by Mr. Phuong Hoang Kim, the Head of the Energy Efficiency Steering Committee, Director of the Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade); representatives from the Vietnam Electricity; the Vietnam Trade Union; representatives from the Departments of Industry and Trade, Industrial Promotion Centers, and Power Companies from the northern provinces; various experts and related organizations, as well as a large number of media and television agencies.
As part of the communication activities under the Vietnam National on Energy Efficiency Program for the period 2019-2030 (VNEEP3), the Energy Efficiency Steering Committee Office organized an online competition "Study on Energy Efficiency and Conservation in 2023." This activity aims to contribute to raising community awareness, especially among the younger generation, about the efficient use of resources and energy, with the goal of promoting a sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle.
The online competition was first organized in 2022. The competition garnered the participation of 89,831 individuals, with a total of nearly 180,000 online responses.
"The online competition ‘Study on Energy Efficiency and Conservation in 2023' aims to contribute to raising community awareness, especially among the younger generation, about the efficient use of resources and energy, with the goal of promoting a sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle." - Mr. Phuong Hoang Kim, Head of the Energy Efficiency Steering Committee Office (Ministry of Industry and Trade).
In his opening speech, Mr. Phuong Hoang Kim, Head of the Energy Efficiency Steering Committee Office and Director of the Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), emphasized: "The competition is being held in an entirely new and innovative online format on the information platform of the VNEEP program. This is a highly effective and cost-efficient means of communication regarding energy conservation. In its very first year of organization, the competition has garnered significant attention and active participation from a wide range of participants across the nation."
The impressive numbers of participants and response rates for each test underscore the community's significant interest in energy conservation. These figures also serve as a positive signal, indicating the Ministry of Industry and Trade's efforts in promoting and enhancing community awareness about energy efficiency and conservation usage.
The delegates carried out the launching ceremony for the online competition "Study on Energy Efficiency and Conservation in 2023."
In 2023, the competition continues to be held on the online platform https://tietkiemnangluong.com.vn/. The competition is open to participants of all ages and geographic locations. It serves as a foundation for the dissemination and promotion of legal regulations on using energy efficiency and conservation. The results of each competition are widely published on the official website and fan page of the Vietnam National Energy Efficiency Program.
The organizing committee has high hopes that with questions related to electricity and energy conservation knowledge that are closely related to daily life, the competition will continue to attract the interest and participation of a diverse range of participants nationwide. This, in turn, will contribute to strong communication and dissemination of the Vietnam National Energy Efficiency Program, as well as energy-saving knowledge in general.
During the event, Ms. Le Thi Duc, Vice President of the Vietnam Trade Union, emphasized the significance of the competition in making energy conservation a regular part of daily life. The Vietnam Trade Union will collaborate with the Energy Efficiency Steering Committee Office to promote and respond to the competition. They will also spread the direction, principles, and national programs related to energy efficiency and conservation to enhance awareness and establish efficient electricity usage habits among the members and laborers in the field of Trade Union.
Ms. Le Thi Duc, Vice President of the Vietnam Trade Union, acknowledges that the competition holds significant importance in making energy conservation a regular and integral part of everyday life.
Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Deputy Director-General of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), stated that generating electricity from fossil fuel sources is causing negative environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and global climate change. Therefore, the conservation and effective use of electricity is one of the solutions to mitigate these adverse environmental effects and work towards Vietnam's commitment at COP26 to achieve net-zero emissions by the year 2050.
Mr. Vo Quang Lam believes that the competition holds significant importance, as it provides an opportunity for all citizens to better understand solutions, as well as safe, efficient, and economical ways to use electricity. Additionally, it assists the Ministry of Industry and Trade in discovering many initiatives, ideas, methods, and effective solutions that can be applied and extended within the community. He expressed confidence that the online competition will attract a wide range of young people, public employees, and workers from government agencies, businesses, schools, and more. Vietnam Electricity will direct and promote the competition to all of its employees and workers, as well as their family members, encouraging them to participate and join in the effort to save electricity.

During the launch event, the "Energy Efficiency - Realizing the Net Zero Commitment" forum also was organized. This forum provided multidimensional information regarding the role of energy efficiency and conservation in the overall national energy planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision for the year 2050. Building on this foundation, it presented support solutions to realize the net-zero commitment by the year 2050, as reaffirmed by the Prime Minister at COP26 and reiterated at COP27.
The "Study on Energy Efficiency and Conservation in 2023" competition is conducted online at the website https://cuocthi.tietkiemnangluong.com.vn/. It will start from 08:00 on October 12, 2023, until 12:00 on November 15, 2023, and will consist of five rounds of testing.
