Những biến động cổ xưa làm hình thành một tầng đá và bồn nước cực nóng nằm khá gần mặt đất. Các nhà khoa học Anh đang xúc tiến khai thác lượng nhiệt và hơi nước này. Hiện tại, một giàn khoan nhỏ cao khoảng 15m đang dần khoan qua các lớp đá cát và đá bùn với tốc độ 6m/giờ. Mũi khoan đã xuống đến 152m và độ sâu dự kiến sẽ là 2,1km. Tại đây, mũi khoan sẽ khai thác một bồn nước nóng bị khóa giữa những tầng đá sâu. Đợt bơm nước nóng đầu tiên có thể sẽ thực hiện trong tháng Năm.
