Social Networking Giant Completes Phase I of New Data Center in Prineville
Facebook’s new, state-of-the-art data center is situated on
120 acres of land in Central Oregon. The campus will be completed in two phases,
each consisting of 150,000 square feet of data warehousing space. Phase I has
been completed, with phase II scheduled for completion at the end of this year.
Facebook’s new efficient, green data center is expected to receive LEED Gold
certification thanks to its energy saving features including an expected
38-percent reduction in energy consumption compared to other data storage
facilities.

The new location in Prineville is expected to create 35 new long-term employment opportunities in the area, not including the 1,300 people who worked to develop and construct the center in the rural community.
"This is a great day for Facebook and it is a great day for Prineville and
Central Oregon," said State Treasurer Ted Wheeler, a longtime social media
user who spoke for the Governor at the grand opening ceremony. "I am
updating my Facebook status as we speak. It says: 'The Prineville data facility
is open for business… and Oregon is open for business'."
