In Italy, solar PV power production attained an unprecedented high of 13,810 GWh in the first seven months of the year.

In Italy, solar PV power production attained an unprecedented high of 13,810 GWh in the first seven months of the year. That is an increase of almost 20% over that period of the previous year, according to TERNA.

Solar now accounts for 7.3% of the electricity mix. In July alone, Italian solar power plants generated 2,957 GWh, which is the greatest amount ever generated from solar in one month in Italy. (Notably, this still doesn’t compete with Germany’s 5,100 GWh monthly record, also just set in July.)

“More importantly, solar PV power production in the first seven months of 2013 increased its share in the country’s energy mix, providing 7.3% of the total electricity demand. In 2012, Terna reported a 5.6 % share of the total electricity demand produced by solar PV,” PV Magazine notes.
