Christie NHS Trust in Manchester wanted to reduce its carbon footprint and generate savings to reinvest in sustainable business practice.

Some of the solutions implemented by Schneider Electric, which won the hospital’s contract, include switching the lighting to LEDs, upgrading the steam pipe insulation to reduce heat loss and installing meters throughout the site to help monitor energy usage.

The company predicts total energy savings of more than £170,000 this year, rising to over £400,000 a year in the next 15 years.

The hospital is also expected to see a 14% reduction in energy use and 29% cut in carbon emissions.

Alex Richards, Business Development Manager at Schneider Electric said: “Through the implementation of this holistic project coupled with our continual expertise and support, this project has helped transform the previous facilities into not only a healthier hospital all round but a future-proofed operation.”
