Century Synthetic Fiber Corporation Saves Energy for Sustainable Development

05/05/2025

Staying committed to and maintaining a sustainable development strategy, Century Synthetic Fiber Corporation (STK) has implemented numerous energy-saving solutions in its production activities.

Century Synthetic Fiber Corporation (STK) specializes in manufacturing and trading high-quality long filament yarns such as POY (Partially Oriented Yarn), DTY (Drawn Texturized Yarn), and FDY (Fully Drawn Yarn). The company’s products are input materials for textile manufacturers, especially producers of high-end sportswear fabrics. With a production capacity of over 60,000 tons of yarn per year, STK has established itself as a leading enterprise in the long filament yarn manufacturing sector in Vietnam.
STK is a market leader in the long filament yarn industry in Vietnam.
With the desire to produce high-quality products that meet market demand while being environmentally friendly, conserving materials, and minimizing production costs — especially electricity costs — STK has actively promoted energy-saving projects and the use of renewable energy.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the textile and garment sector still has an energy-saving potential of up to 20%. Therefore, technological innovation and technical improvements are key solutions to help textile enterprises use energy more efficiently, increase labor productivity, and enhance competitiveness.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, Head of the Utility Department at STK, said that to save electricity, the company has implemented a range of measures, including: investing in energy-saving equipment and technology, replacing outdated and power-hungry devices with newer ones, and designing factory buildings to maximize the use of natural lighting — creating a well-ventilated working environment while minimizing unnecessary use of electrical devices.
In addition, STK has deployed various energy-saving initiatives at its production facilities. Innovations such as installing inverters on machines and upgrading the compressed air system have helped the company save 2,643,058 kWh of electricity and reduce about 12,768 tons of CO₂ emissions from 2018 to 2023.
STK also places a strong focus on monitoring and evaluating energy usage at its production sites. In early 2024, the company’s Trảng Bàng branch conducted a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory to identify current energy consumption sources and propose solutions for energy optimization. One implemented solution was replacing fluorescent lights with high-efficiency LED lights, saving approximately VND 115 million per year; another was installing inverters to control oil exhaust fans, saving about VND 350 million annually.
Moreover, STK performs periodic energy audits every three years. These reports help the company assess its current energy usage and identify inefficient areas, allowing for targeted improvements to reduce energy costs.
Rooftop solar power accounts for over 6% of STK’s total energy consumption.
To reduce dependence on the national power grid, since 2020, STK has partnered with a strategic partner to install rooftop solar systems at its Củ Chi and Trảng Bàng plants. The total capacity of these solar power systems is 7.4 MWp per year. By 2023, solar energy accounted for more than 6% of the company’s total energy consumption. In the coming time, the company plans to increase its use of renewable energy through additional rooftop solar projects at the Unitex factory and DPPA (Direct Power Purchase Agreement) projects at both the Trảng Bàng factory and the Unitex subsidiary.

The investment in technological innovation, combined with the comprehensive implementation of energy-saving solutions, has helped Century Synthetic Fiber Corporation significantly reduce energy consumption, lower CO₂ emissions, and contribute to climate change mitigation.
In 2024, Century Synthetic Fiber Corporation was one of 11 enterprises awarded the “Industrial Energy Efficiency Award,” organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Vietnam Energy Conservation and Efficiency Science and Technology Association. The award honors enterprises, projects, and individuals with outstanding initiatives and solutions in promoting efficient energy use, contributing to national energy-saving goals in accordance with Prime Minister’s Directive No. 20/CT-TTg.
