Korea & Malaysia to Look into Possible FTA

On the second day of his two-day state visit to Malaysia, President Lee Myung-bak held a one-on-one meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak, on Friday. During the summit the two leaders reviewed and reflected on the 50 years of diplomatic ties and discussed measures to promote cooperation in a wide range of sectors including green technology, nuclear power generation and the joint exploration of markets in third countries.

On the second day of his two-day state visit to Malaysia, President Lee Myung-bak held a one-on-one meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak, on Friday.


During the summit the two leaders reviewed and reflected on the 50 years of diplomatic ties and discussed measures to promote cooperation in a wide range of sectors including green technology, nuclear power generation and the joint exploration of markets in third countries.


They also attended a signing ceremony of memorandums of understanding on biotechnology and biofuel as well as a treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

At a press conference, President Lee expressed his satisfaction over the talks in which the two sides agreed on further cooperation on peaceful uses of nuclear energy and closer collaboration in nuclear technology, such as smart nuclear reactors.


President Lee Myung-bak: "Korea and Malaysia have agreed to cooperate in nuclear power industry as many countries are turning to nuclear power taking shape ) as a key renewable energy in light of climate change."


Najib Razak, Malaysian Prime Minister: "The ASEAN-ROK free trade agreement has given a strong impetus for trade and investment between the ASEAN and Korea." 


The two leaders also agreed to step up efforts in prospering together by enhancing its partnership on renewable energy development, people-to-people exchange and regional security.
