Korea to Build 14 More Nuclear Power Plants by 2024

Korea is set to build 14 nuclear power plants by the year 2024 in an attempt to lessen its reliance on petroleum for electricity.

At a public hearing in Seoul on Tuesday the Korean government announced a long-term plan for energy which calls for an increase in the portion generated through nuclear plants and renewable sources.

The plan would boost the proportion of nuclear power plants in the country's electricity generation from the current 37 percent or so to 48-and-a-half percent.
Korea currently operates 20 nuclear reactors for electricity production, the fifth-most in the world.
