‘SMART CAMPUS’ cuts energy use by 30%

A new initiative has helped reduce energy use by 30% in university buildings across Europe.

The three-year ‘SMART CAMPUS’ project aimed to achieve energy savings of up to 20% by changing users’ behaviour in non-residential university campuses.

Funded by the European Commission, the project used Enoro’s computer software ‘GENERIS’ which collected energy usage data from pilot campuses and provided them with feedback.

It resulted in major energy savings in different locations. In Sweden more than 20% was saved in offices and car heater experiments and in Finland 20% was saved by training kitchen staff in lighting scenarios.

Anders H. Lier, President & CEO, Enoro said: “GENERIS collected the energy consumption data from the pilot campuses, validated it and provided the campuses with feedback on how the forecast compared to the actual results.”
