100% of the barracks and households in Truong Sa District (the Spratly - Khanh Hoa Province) can now use electric energy for their work and life, with the continuous supply of 24 hours a day.
The whole district is now under television and telephone coverages. It is special that all the electric energy used in this island district is produced from wind power and solar energy. So far, Truong Sa has been the first district in the country to use clean energy sources.
Such an achievement is owing to the National Oil and Gas Corporation of Vietnam who in 2008 began funding a project of developing renewable energy and lighting systems in Truong Sa District. The wind and solar energy systems are now complete and have been put into operation.
Stable electric energy sources are facilitating the training, combat readiness to protect the island, and promoting the production of the households living there.
Only in 2010 and the first quarter of 2011, Song Tu Village made the total production value of VND216 million, while Truong Sa Village did nearly VND380 million. With a dry lock that can accommodate dozens of fishing vessels of large capacity, in the near future Truong Sa District will open up many other utility services such as purchasing and processing sea products on the premises as well as producing ice cubes.
The island district now has been performing many business activities such as aquaculture, purchase of seafood, supply of fresh water, diesel, food, ship repair, etc at the same prices as those inland.
