Mr. Patil Omkar, Senior Director of the Engineering Department at Terumo BCT Vietnam, shared: "Energy efficiency is an important global topic and also plays a crucial role for us. As a responsible enterprise, Terumo BCT Vietnam is striving to implement energy-saving solutions."
"Currently, we are continuously working to improve energy consumption efficiency. Specifically, we’ve invested in energy-saving solutions such as using inverters and modifying production models to optimize the use of all energy types – from gas and electricity to water," Mr. Patil Omkar explained.
Some notable energy-saving initiatives implemented by Terumo BCT Vietnam include replacing 2,000 fluorescent lamps (28W) with LED lamps (16W), which saved 0.7% of the company’s total electricity consumption.
The company has also invested in new technological equipment such as installing a high-efficiency boiler (96.5%), which helped save 5% of the total CNC gas usage; and installing a new air compressor system using inverter technology, which saves approximately 966,992 kWh/year, equivalent to reducing about 654 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.

The company installed a separate chiller system dedicated to the blood bag production line, instead of using the factory’s shared chiller system. This new chiller, with lower capacity but higher efficiency and lower return water temperature, saved approximately 455,952 kWh/year, equivalent to a reduction of about 308 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
To further enhance electricity savings, the company analyzes data and applies partial load operation for the chiller system during nighttime and weekends; turns off the HVAC system during public holidays; and turns off or reduces lighting in areas not in use or with low traffic. In addition, the company conducts training for employees on efficient and economical energy usage.

Furthermore, Terumo BCT Vietnam also emphasizes “green” solutions. In 2024, the company commissioned a rooftop solar power system with a capacity of 2 MWp. The electricity generated from this solar system meets 8–10% of the factory's electricity demand and helps reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 2,000 tons annually.
In addition to technological and technical measures, Terumo BCT Vietnam has established an Energy Management Board and issued a policy on efficient energy use. The board also regularly conducts training to raise awareness of energy-saving practices among staff.
The rooftop solar system supplies 8–10% of the factory’s energy demand.
Currently, along with production and market expansion, Terumo BCT Vietnam continues to innovate its technologies to reduce energy costs and enhance competitiveness both domestically and internationally.
Terumo BCT Vietnam Co., Ltd. was awarded Second Prize in the "2024 Industrial Energy Efficiency Awards" by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Energy Conservation and Efficiency Association (VECEA). This award honors outstanding models and solutions for efficient energy use in industrial production, thereby creating positive social impact and contributing to national socio-economic development and sustainable industrialization and modernization.
