Attending the conference were representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, representatives of City Women’s Union with numerous guests from Departments of Industry and Trade in the North.

According to Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, in 2010, the pilot campaign Energy efficiency and conservation in households in the city attracted 100,000 households to participate, in there, 30,000 households achieved the title of the Household of energy efficiency and conservation, and 30 households achieved the title of the Typical household of energy efficiency. The campaign raised the awareness of energy efficiency of each member of the family and contributed to saving 17 million kWh, equivalent to saving VND 15 billion.

"Energy efficiency and conservation in households is a content prescribed in the Law on Energy Efficiency and Conservation approved by the National Assembly. To bring contents of the Law to the real life, the city Department of Industry and Trade, in many different ways, has brought knowledge of the use of energy consuming devices closer to the people "- Mr. Dao Hong Thai, Director of the Hanoi Energy Conservation Center.

Mr. Nguyen The Phung, at No. 48, Lane 61, Truong Chinh, one of 30 families achieving the title of the typical household use of energy efficiency in 2010, shared that, before the city launched the campaign, all his family members already had the awareness of saving power. Equipment when not in use is turned off. Curtains are used to stop heat from the outside. Inside the house, if air conditioner is turned on, the fans are turned off. Thus, even in summer, electric bill of his family is always at the average level.

On the same occasion, Hanoi Energy Conservation Center released handbooks on saving energy in households to guests. According to Mr. Thai, solutions in the manual are easy to implement, saving efficiency is 10 to 15% of total energy consumption for each household.

Mr Le Van Thanh, cultural official of Nam Phong commune, Phu Xuyen, said: "As a cultural official, but in the past, I myself also lacked knowledge to propagate energy saving to the people. Now, it is much better since we have this manual. We will try to hold talks to help farmers save money on electricity each month".

Also at the Conference, experts of Hanoi Energy Conservation Center directly shared knowledge about effective use of electrical appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, irons; saving gas for vehicles.
