Bearing the nature of a tropical resort, Anantara Resort & Spa is typical for open spaced architectural model including well ventilated public areas, lobbies, hallways, and break rooms. Moreover, in order to maximize the natural incentives, Anantara Resort & Spa is seen with low building rate of only about 33 percent of the total area. The remaining area is covered by green grass, flowers, swimming pool, lotus ponds, trees, shrubs and coconut groves.
Reception halls, lounges, villas, massage parlors, and bars in Anantara Resort & Spa are connected to each other through a system of small tree-shaded walkways. All rooms are designed with sweeping views and overlooking the sea. Wide corridors help the magnificent building easily take the wind blowing in from the outside while reducing the use of air conditioning systems. Windows and doors are also arranged to ensure the best utilization of natural light, i.e. letting the light go deep into the room and minimizing heat radiation through the door glasses.
Along with a rationally scientific architecture, the lighting or cooling devices in this resort are high performance. Specifically, the lighting system was designed to mainly take advantage of natural light and reduce the use of power lit devices which are chiefly used at night or under cloudy weathers. In power lit areas in Anantara Resort & Spa, energy saving compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs and tubes are used, for example, 5W CFL bulbs for hallways, T5-28W CF tubes for rooms, and 9W light emitting diode (LED) bulbs for rest rooms. Moreover, light reflector sheets are also used to increase lighting efficiency. Other devices such as air conditioners and water heaters in the resort are high performance and electricity saving, or use solar energy.
Advanced architectural model has helped the resort maintain a stable temperature of 27.60 degree Celsius and humidity at 85.5 percent. The maximum power consumption is measured at 111.76 kWh per month, much lower than other buildings with the same functions.
