Sustainable Energy Days will be held in Moldova on June 15-21 within the European Union Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW).

Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova said during the opening ceremony on Monday that Moldova’s main goal is that 20% of the consumed energy to be taken from the renewable sources by 2020.

It is vital to use the renewable energy both for Moldova and for the entire planet. On one hand, this is the protection environment, on the other hand – a guarantee of the country’s energy security. For citizens this means a practical saving, which allows reducing the sums in bills for electricity consumption, he said.

Conferences, open discussions, presentations of solutions in the field of using alternative energy sources, concerts, energy quizzes, film screenings and photo exhibitions will be organized within the framework of Energy Days. Similar public events will be held in Orhei and Ialoveni.

Energy Efficiency Agency Director Mihail Stratan said that these activities are aimed at sharing experience with countries-leaders in using renewable energy resources.

“Moldova has various sources of renewable energy: biomass, wind and solar energy. Using of these sources, as well as implementing of energy efficiency projects will allow Moldova be less dependent on energy resources imports. Besides, the using of alternative energy sources will positively affect ecology. Thus, in case of biomass, we are using waste that transforms in energy”, he said.

Infotag’s dossier: The EU Sustainable Energy Week is being organized in Moldova for the second time. Started in 2006 at the European Commission initiative, the EUSEW gathers hundreds of organizations and individuals all across the Europe and outside it to share experience, develop new ideas and bring a contribution in reaching climatic and energy goals of the EU in the field of greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources by 2020.

The EUSEW was for the first time conducted in Moldova in 2014. Organizers of the event are the EU delegation, the Moldovan Government, embassies of the Great Britain, Czech Republic and Sweden to Moldova, Chisinau Primaria [city government], Energy Efficiency Agency and others.
