Gamesa, a leading player in the renewable energy space, today announced its latest solar project totalling 15 MW in the state of Tamil Nadu.
This is the second project that Gamesa has secured in this State of India, bringing its overall solar portfolio to over 48 MW in the country. Under this contract, Gamesa will be responsible for engineering and design, supply of inverters, erection and commissioning of the 15 MW solar farm. The project is expected to be commissioned within the first quarter of 2016 in Puddukotai, Tamil Nadu.

This focus on the solar PV sector in India fits with the strategic goal enshrined in the 2015-2017 business plan of exploring opportunities in businesses that complement the wind industry, such as solar power. India's solar potential has been sized at 750 GW. The government's goal is to lift installed capacity to 100 GW by 2022, compared to 3.8 GW today.
