Isolux Corsan has been awarded the 37.6 MW Kayenta Solar Project by the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority. The engineering, procurement and construction contract is valued at more than $50 million and will be the Spain-based company’s second solar plant in the U.S.
The solar project, located on Navajo Nation land north of Kayenta, Ariz., will occupy an area of approximately 210 acres and will consist of 119,301 photovoltaic panels on single-axis trackers and 13 power blocks. When completed, it will be the first utility-scale solar energy facility operating on the 27,000-square-mile Navajo Nation, according to Isolux Corsan.

The company says that in addition to generating renewable energy for the Navajo Nation, the project will boost the local economy, as job creation and spending in the area will rise during construction and the 25 years of operation and maintenance of the plant afterwards.
Isolux Corsan’s other U.S. solar plant to date was a 24.9 MW project in El Centro, Calif., which the company constructed and currently maintains.
