In recent times, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has actively implemented programs and plans to strengthen environmental protection, carry out tasks under the Environmental Protection Plan of the Industry and Trade sector for the period 2020-2025 that has been approved. Prime Minister Approved. One of the solutions in the Plan of interest is to promote piloting green industrial models in industrial sectors.
Accordingly, greening industry is becoming a development trend that brings efficiency in economic growth, solves social problems and overcomes the consequences of environmental pollution. For the chemical and fertilizer manufacturing industry - industries with high potential risks of causing high emissions and using a lot of energy, the requirements for green standards are therefore much more stringent.
In order to protect the environment and “green” the production of chemicals and fertilizers, Mr. Phung Ngoc Bo – Head of Technical Department of Vietnam Chemical Group said: The Chemical Group focuses on 5 main groups of solutions, including: Using energy economically and efficiently; reducing greenhouse gas emissions; solutions on fuel saving; waste treatment and recycling; focusing on propaganda.
With these solutions, the awareness of environmental protection and green production of leaders, especially business leaders and employees in the Vietnam Chemical Group has improved significantly in recent times.
“The units within the Group as well as the Group not only consider green production and environmental protection as a responsibility but have also brought about very clear economic benefits for the business as well as for the community.” - Mr. Phung Ngoc Bo stated.

According to Mr. Phung Ngoc Bo, Head of Technical Department of Vietnam Chemical Group, eliminating environmental pollution in production brings many major benefits to the chemical industry, in terms of environment, society; economy and enhances the position of enterprises when integrating into the global supply chain.
More specifically about the benefits of the social environment, Mr. Phung Ngoc Bo said: Eliminating impurities and waste as well as managing environmental protection well creates a cleaner and safer living and working environment, and workers will feel secure in their commitment to the business and the unit, thereby bringing about efficiency as well as increasing labor productivity.
Economic benefits, "In principle, when we do that job well, we will reduce consumption rates, reduce waste treatment costs and bring about very positive economic effects." - Mr. Phung Ngoc Bo affirmed.
Another benefit is to enhance the position of the business, especially when integrating into the global supply chain. For chemical businesses that have good environmental management and eliminate waste, they can penetrate demanding markets, which is also a part of helping Vietnam achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 0 as committed by the Government at COP2050.
Regarding the content of energy saving and conversion, according to Mr. Phung Ngoc Bo, the Prime Minister has issued Directive 20 on electricity saving for the period 2023 - 2025 and the following years. Vietnam Chemical Group and its member units have also developed a plan, aiming to save 2025% to 2% of total electricity consumption annually from 5 onwards.
Accordingly, Vietnam Chemical Group encourages units to install rooftop solar power and many units in the group have applied this solution. For example, Fertilizer Company Ninh Binh Rubber Joint Stock Company Da Nang, Southern Rubber Company... Many units use environmentally friendly biomass energy such as: Sawdust, rice husk to produce steam and in the product drying process such as: Lam Thao Super Phosphate and Chemical Company, Viet Tri Chemical Company...
Although bringing many practical benefits, according to the representative of Vietnam Chemical Group, in the process of greening production, enterprises in the Group also face many challenges. Specifically, regarding the treatment of gypsum waste in the production of phosphoric acid, currently only Dinh Vu Gypsum Joint Stock Company factory processes and treats gypsum to produce additives for cement and the capacity is also limited.
In addition, economic experts believe that investment capital for businesses when switching to green production activities is also a challenge. Accordingly, to support greening in industrial production in general and the chemical and fertilizer industry in particular, experts believe that, in addition to the efforts of the business community, it is still necessary to have the "joint hands" of ministries, branches and functional agencies in supporting businesses in terms of technology and capital.
