More businesses will be covered by the Energy Efficiency Grant (EEG) scheme as the government expands the programme to accommodate companies in the manufacturing, construction, maritime, data centres, and their users.

The EEG, which was launched in 2022 to include companies in the food services, food manufacturing, and retail sectors, aims to support businesses by co-funding their procurement of energy-efficient equipment.

Deputy Prime Miniter Lawrence Wong said companies registered and operating in Singapore will be eligible for EEG support, provided that they have at least 30% local shareholding, at least one local employee, and group annual sales of $500m and below.

The EEG will also introduce two tiers of support. Under the Base Tier, the government will support 70% of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and 30% of non-SMEs pre-approved energy efficiency equipment costs, with a support cap of $30,000 per company.

Meanwhile, the Advanced Tier for selected sectors will have a support cap of $350,000 across base and advanced tiers. At this level, the equipment does not need to be pre-approved it must show energy savings of over 350 tons in lifetime carbon abatement.

The grant for the advanced tier is computed based on the lower support levels under the base tier or the equipment’s expected lifetime carbon abatement.
