Launching 2025 Journalism Award for Promoting Energy Efficiency and Conservation

12/03/2025

On the afternoon of March 11, 2025, in Hanoi, MOIT, in collaboration with the Vietnam Journalists Association, organized the Journalism Award for Promoting Energy Efficiency and Conservation 2025 launching ceremony.

Representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the Vietnam Journalists Association, the Vietnam Electricity (EVN), energy efficiency associations, and many journalists from various media and broadcasting agencies attended the event.
This marks the 14th year the award has been organized nationwide.
Vietnam is one of the fastest-growing economies in the ASEAN region, with an increasing demand for energy. This rapid growth puts significant pressure on the national energy system. Dependence on imported energy also poses risks to energy security, especially in the context of ongoing global energy market fluctuations.
In response, the Vietnamese government has been making continuous efforts to ensure energy security by enhancing energy efficiency. Various policies and initiatives have been implemented to promote energy conservation across society. On March 13, 2019, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 280/QD-TTg, approving the Vietnam National Energy Efficiency Programme for the 2019–2030 period (VNEEP3). This program integrates various activities to promote energy efficiency nationwide, with public awareness campaigns playing a crucial role in educating communities, businesses, and society on the importance and benefits of energy conservation.
The Journalism Award for Promoting Energy Efficiency and Conservation is one of the key communication initiatives under the VNEEP program. It aims to raise awareness and responsibility within communities regarding energy conservation while recognizing outstanding journalists and exemplary works on energy efficiency at both national and local levels.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long opening speech at the ceremony.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long emphasized that 2025 marks a crucial phase in Vietnam’s sustainable development journey, with the theme "Green Transition – Green Future." This is not only a strategic direction but also a strong commitment to efficient energy use, emission reduction, and promoting a green economy. He highlighted the vital role of journalism in spreading awareness, shaping public perception, and driving collective action toward sustainability.
The award has become an annual event, attracting widespread participation from journalists across the country. “Each work is not just a journalistic product but also a call to action, carrying a powerful message,” the Deputy Minister noted. The Ministry of Industry and Trade hopes to receive many outstanding, creative entries in 2025 that showcase groundbreaking initiatives and significant efforts in energy conservation. Additionally, the press should highlight implementation challenges, propose practical solutions, and reflect on the realities of energy efficiency efforts.
"The Ministry of Industry and Trade firmly believes that, with the close collaboration of the Vietnam Journalists Association and strong support from media agencies, this year’s award will be a success, contributing to the nation’s energy-saving initiatives and sustainable development. Journalists and reporters are not just information transmitters—they are agents of change, helping to shape a greener future for future generations," Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long affirmed.
Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
At the event, Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), stated that in 2025, the electricity system will continue to face challenges in meeting the national GDP growth target of 8% or more, which could result in a 12–13% increase in electricity demand. EVN is working closely with relevant agencies to ensure adequate electricity supply for the economy.
Throughout 2025, EVN will collaborate with local authorities to assess electricity demand in different regions, develop targeted growth plans, and implement energy-saving awareness programs. Electricity units will hold direct discussions with provincial Departments of Industry and Trade, local People's Committees, and relevant agencies to coordinate electricity supply strategies, particularly during peak summer months.
Beyond the power sector’s efforts, Mr. Vo Quang Lam emphasized that achieving energy efficiency requires the collective action of the media and society. He expressed confidence that with widespread participation, Vietnam will continue making significant progress toward its "Green Transition – Green Future" vision.
