Scaling Up Energy Efficiency for Leaders of Industrial Enterprises

15/04/2025

On the morning of April 15, 2025, within the framework of the Vietnam Scaling Up Energy Efficiency Project (VSUEE), a training course "Scaling Up Energy Efficiency for Leaders of Industrial Enterprises " was organized.

On the morning of April 15, 2025, a training course  "Scaling Up Energy Efficiency for Leaders of Beverage Industrial Enterprises" was organized under the VSUEE Project.
Given that the industrial sector accounts for a large proportion of national energy consumption (over 50%), implementing energy efficiency (EE) solutions not only helps enterprises reduce production costs and enhance competitiveness but also significantly contributes to the national goals of sustainable development and greenhouse gas emission reduction. One of the key factors in realizing the implementation of energy efficiency measures in industrial enterprises is the role of enterprises leadership.
Mr. Bui Thanh Hung, General Director of Bach Khoa Energy Conservation Center, delivers the opening speech.
Enterprise leaders play a decisive role in promoting energy efficiency (EE) solutions. When a leader truly recognizes that EE is not just a cost-cutting measure but also a way to improve production efficiency, brand reputation, and long-term competitiveness, EE becomes part of the development strategy rather than a short-term option.
Moreover, many EE solutions require significant initial investment. Without decisive and long-term vision from leadership, enterprises may miss out on major savings opportunities and productivity gains in the future. In practice, many companies have saved billions of VND annually thanks to decisive leadership that drives the implementation of appropriate measures.
Mr. Nguyen Van Viet, Chairman of the Vietnam Beverage Association, shares his point of view on the importance of applying energy efficiency measures to the beverage sector.
Leadership is not only critical internally but also serves to connect the enterprise with external resources—such as green finance funds, international organizations, and technology solution providers. Especially in the context of Vietnam implementing technical and financial support programs like the VSUEE Project, proactive leadership is a key factor determining successful participation and benefit from such mechanisms.
The VSUEE Project offers a Risk Sharing Facility (RSF) with a scale of 75 million USD from reimbursable funds provided by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) through the World Bank. The RSF was established to reduce credit risks for participating financial institutions when lending to energy efficiency investment projects through the issuance of RSF credit guarantees.
Mr. Bui Xuan Canh, Technical Appraisal Expert, Risk Sharing Facility Management Board, introduced the Risk Sharing Fund and the guarantee mechanism.
For Vietnamese enterprises to access international markets and sustainable funding sources and meet increasingly stringent ESG standards, EE investment needs to be viewed by leadership as an integral part of a long-term, environmentally responsible, and sustainable development strategy.
Recognizing the importance of enterprise leadership in implementing EE solutions, under the Vietnam Scaling Up Energy Efficiency Project, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the World Bank, organized the training course “Scaling Up Energy Efficiency for Leaders of Industrial Enterprises.”
The main training content includes: (i) Enhancing capacity to identify and develop energy efficiency and conservation projects; (ii) Energy auditing and financial analysis for energy efficiency projects; (iii) Introduction and application of measurement, reporting, and verification systems; (iv) Marketing and business strategies for enterprises.
The training course was attended by 31 trainees who are leaders of enterprises in the Beverage sector.
The instructors include lecturers from technical universities, energy efficiency experts from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and EE experts from both domestic and international projects. The training session on April 15, 2025, included 31 participants who are leaders of enterprises in the beverage sector. Remaining training courses will be organized with customized curricula designed for practical application in specific industry groups, including: Seafood, Textiles and Garments, Paper and Pulp, Bricks and Ceramics, Steel, Cement; and Plastics.
