Graduates from the US and Canada will join a European summer school which aims to create the next generation of low carbon entrepreneurs.

Called ‘The Journey’, it has been running for more than five years, educating around 1,000 European students. But Climate-KIC, the EU’s climate initiative, has launched the global edition for the first time.

The five-week course starts in London, travels to Zurich, Switzerland and concludes for its final week in Munich, Germany.

The school will look at how to start a business which commercialises climate problems alongside tackling climate issues in a cost-effective way. Students will also work on ideas for solutions to real world climate-related issues and compete in teams.

Ebrahim Mohamed, Climate-KIC’s Director for Education said: “With worldwide economic losses due to climate change already estimated at $1.2 trillion (£0.8 tn) per year, we urgently need specialised innovators and entrepreneurs to help develop and implement new solutions to climate change.”
