In the afternoon of October 02, 2015, a Ceremony of Acceptance and Handover of equipment of Green Hospital Project among Vietnam – Germany Friendship Hospital, Mitsubishi Group and Ho Chi Minh City Energy Conservation Center was organized in Hanoi.

This is one of the models in the scope of the Promotion of green hospital construction project through the enhancement of efficient use of energy and environment in Vietnam.

Before the implementation of the project, Vietnam – Germany Friendship Hospital did not have any smart energy management system connected with air conditioners, air ventilation systems, and airflow flaps. All 585 air conditioners are old without any inverters. In 2013, total electric consumption of the hospital was over 5.8 million kWh with a cost of VND8.4 billion.

On May 13, 2014, Vietnam – Germany Friendship Hospital and Mitsubishi Group agreed to implement the construction of green hospital project through the memorandum of understanding, in which Mitsubishi shall provide the hospital with 526 air-conditioning inverters, 4 cabinets of energy management system, 6 ventilators using discarded heat and 6 airflow reverse fans. Total project value is over VND8.3 billion, in which New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) granted 63%.

From the date of development to the present, 100 percent of patients in departments and divisions have benefited from the project. The hospital saved a huge budget thanks to efficient use of energy. Particularly, the hospital saved 830,000 kWh, equivalent to VND1.23 billion and reduced 518 tons of CO2 emissions each year. The project also helps improve environmental conditions, enhance service quality, contributing to putting the hospital in the direction of green hospital in the future.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Tien, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Health affirmed the fact that the hospital was supported up to 63% of total investment value gained immense significance in the contribution to successful implementation of the project. This model actually achieves efficiency and needs to be multiplied in the future for it not only saves energy, protects environment but also brings economic benefits, reduces pressure for electric network.

After the implementation of the project, 44 other hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City will continue to be built under the model of green hospital.
