Vietnam-Iceland in Cooperation for Clean Energy Resources Development

On November 5, 2015, in Hanoi, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in cooperation with the Embassy of Iceland held a seminar on "The future of clean energy."

On November 5, 2015, in Hanoi, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in cooperation with the Embassy of Iceland held a seminar on "The future of clean energy." The Republic of Iceland's President, His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grimsson, and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai attended and delivered speeches.

At the seminar, Iceland's President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson confirms that Iceland has great potential in geothermal and renewable energy sources. While Vietnam is on a powerful and rapid socio-economic development, fuel consumption and the advocated sustainable development require diverse energy solutions to reduce the reliance on fossil energy sources. Therefore, the President believes that the seminar will open up many opportunities for the realization of plans, the agreements reached by leaders of both countries.

On behalf of the Government of Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai appreciated the seminar as a good opportunity to share and learn valuable experience of Iceland in the development of clean energy. From the seminar, the Vietnamese energy sector will have the opportunity to access, acquire the solutions to help improve the capacity, apply new modern technologies for the sustainable development of clean energy in Vietnam. Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the future was very positive, especially in the energy sector; the Government of Vietnam always places an important value on the cooperation and encourages and creates favorable conditions for Icelandic enterprises to make their choices in Vietnam as a strategic location to expand their business operations and economic cooperation with ASEAN countries and East Asia.

On this occasion, the partner institutions and enterprises of the two countries signed a number of documents, the framework agreement on the establishment of green energy based companies, and programs of technological cooperation.
