Japan to help Hanoi treat industrial waste

On the afternoon of October 14th, People's Committee of Hanoi discussed with the Chairman of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan and theMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment about preparing for the implementation of the project "Building a system to treat waste of power industry" in an area of 1 ha of Nam Son Waste Disposal Complex, Soc Son district.

On the afternoon of October 14th, People's Committee of Hanoi discussed with the Chairman of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan and theMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment about preparing for the implementation of the project "Building a system to treat waste of power industry" in an area of 1 ha of Nam Son Waste Disposal Complex, Soc Son district.


According to Mr Sejji, Chairman of NEDO organization, the project " Building a system to treat waste of power industry" will focus on building a waste incinerator using advanced technology of Japan with the capacity of 75 tons of waste per day; an exhaust treatment system; a heat recovery system to run 1.2MW generators.


The total investment of this projects is about $ 21 million, including $ 17 million funded by Japanese side, $ 4 million contributed by Vietnamese side; Urban Environment One Member State-owne Limited Company (URENCO ) is the investor of this project.

"This is the first pilot project to apply advanced technologies of Japan in treating waste of energy industry for environment protection and sustainable development. If this project is successful,it  will be implemented in other provinces of Vietnam and other ASEAN countries", said Mr Sejji.


It is expected that, from now until November 30th, the parties will conduct research to establish viable project; from December 1st  to December 23th, they will make final evaluation, sign a memorandum of understanding and an agreement on the implementation of this project.


In 2011 and 2012, NEDO will design construction, manufacture equipment to transport to Vietnam; build and install equipment, test run, demonstrate; put the plant into operation and organize management and operation training programs.


On behalf of the leaders of Hanoi, Mr Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of City People's Committee, appreciates the cooperation and assistance of Japan for Hanoi in recent years, including the field of environmental protection.


Mr Khoi has commited to clear and hand over the ground on schedule.The city has assigned related units to cooperate, facilitate, closely and expeditiously coordinate to implement the project.


NEDO is an organization under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan specialized in supporting the research, development and dissemination of new technologies in the field of environment, energy and industry worldwide.
