To implement promote agricultural development via the application of high technology innovations, many private companies, state businesses as well as foreign companies in recent years have invested in plant multiplication and growth in agricultural production using lighting technology. The initial results have been positive but its efficiency depends on sufficiently reliable and high quality lighting. This new market has received the strong attention of the Rang Dong Light Source & Vacuum Flask JSC.

Many plants currently have high economic value on the Tet holiday, such as chrysanthemums, dragon fruit and apricots. However, to promote their growth in the winter, it is necessary to increase the amount of lighting the plants are exposed to. Lighting costs are often a high proportion of production costs and previously the only way to curb costs was to cut the amount of electricity used on lighting.

Rang Dong Light Source & Vacuum Flask JSC's R&D Center has developed the research and manufacturing of lighting sources for agriculture and offered solutions of lighting system for different objects in greenhouse or farm with the goal of providing adequate light in order to stimulate plant development, improve quality and reduce power consumption.

According to R&D Center Director, Associate Professor, Dr. Do Xuan Thanh, "We have closely cooperated with experts from the Institute of Agrobiology in successfully researching and manufacturing a number of low-pressure discharge lamps and variable intensity LEDs which can be adjusted in accordance with the requirements of photosynthesis and morphology".

Institute of Agrobiology Director, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Thach said, "the process of plant cell tissue takes place under artificial light in the place where the temperature is controlled and 60 percent of the cost is for lighting". One of the important issues in reducing the cost of seedlings is the continuous modification of breeding technology and energy savings, which has been solved by the R&D Center. Due to the plant types and plant models, the Center has researched and developed an optimum lighting system, which consists of a compact lamp with different wave-length and lighting coefficients. Growers can save 35-51 percent of electricity compared with incandescent and fluorescent lamps. Together with this new lighting technology, plants can grow better and bring to the market the high quality but low price products.

In its successful research of the optimum lighting system for seedling production, plant growth and flowering controlling models, the center has contributed to enhancing the value of Vietnam's agricultural products on the market, helping people to reduce production cost and reduce environmental pollution. The center and partners have accelerated the testing methods with the aim of providing not only energy saving lamps for agriculture but also the design and the lighting solutions for all plant production models based on the request of its customers.
