Việt Nam- USA Cooperation in Clean Energy Promoted

On May 14, 2015, a workshop on clean energy took place in HCM City with the theme "Smart Solutions for Vietnam". The Workshop was co-organized by the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and Investment Newspaper to promote clean energy cooperation between the two countries.

Vietnam is rich in renewable energy. The coast stretches over 3,200 km, the annual sunshine on average is about 1.600- 2.500 hours,  and agriculture is a key economic sector, Vietnam possesses advantages for the development of wind energy, solar and biomass energy.

In the context when fossil fuel resources are diminishing, the shift to clean energy sources is considered to be the right way and reflecting the long-term vision.

At the workshop, participants shared and discussed the challenges, benefits and solutions for sustainable energy development in Vietnam. 

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr. Nguyen The Phuong said that Vietnam strives to contribute to the stable global development and be among the pioneers in orientation of development with sustainability. The search for intelligent solutions to promote the development of clean energy is also a key point in the National Strategy for Green Growth that is on-going in Vietnam.

 

He further noted that Vietnam should make full use of the potential renewable energy and take advantage of advancement of science in the world today to harness and use those energy resources more efficiently.

At the workshop, many US businesses expressed their desire to invest in the renewable energy sector in Vietnam. The US Representative said that the United States would continue to support the firms and companies which have intentions to make investment in Vietnam.
