Based on the survey findings at 300 hotels, buildings in the south conducted by the Energy Conservation Center of HCM City, the frontline consumers of energy is the air-conditioning system (65% ), followed by water heating system ranked with over 15% of the total energy consumption.
Most hotels are using gas or oil-fueled steamers, or electric water heaters with low performance, thus the energy proportion for hot water systems is larger. New technology solutions therefore will help businesses save energy effectively.
As reported, in 2012, EEC HCMC officially put the ESCO project into operation, providing comprehensive energy solutions, including designs and energy savings projects, energy conservation, leasing the energy infrastructure among many others to contribute to improving the energy efficiency in enterprises. This model has been applied widely in the world, especially in industrialized countries.
In the process, instead of spending money on the installation or replacement of energy-saving schemes, the enterprises could have ESCO to make the initial investment into the entire cost of the project, and ESCO will recover its capital and profits based on the sharing of the benefits from energy efficiency after a certain time, and the share is mutually agreed in advance by the two parties.
Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Dai, chief engineer at the Legend Saigon Hotel, one of the first hotels in HCM City joining ESCO project revealed that the replacement of old shower taps with a new technology system of water-saving shower taps, the hotel could reduce 180 liters of diesel oil per day and 4500 liters of water/ month.
"After conducting the audit, we realize that the replacement of water-saving shower taps is one of the most feasible and effective solutions. With the savings pace as it is today, it is expected that within 5-7 years, the investment in project could be recovered".
