In the implementation of energy development strategy, Ministry of Industry and Trade presided over the preparation of policies to support the development of renewable energy sources such as wind power, biomass power, electricity generated from solid wastes and solar power.

The Review Meeting to debrief the Action Plan for National Target Program to Respond to Climate Change, covering the period 2010 - 2015 was organized by Ministry of Indutry and Trade (MOIT). It reveals that despite many difficulties,  MOIT related programs and projects for climate change have made significant contributions.

Specifically, the enactment of the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy 2010, Ministry of Industry and Trade presided over the National Target Program on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy under Decision No. 1427/QD-TTg dated 01/10/2012 approved by the Prime Minister, a number of important policies have been developed to achieve the savings target from 5-8% of the total energy consumption of the country in the period 2012 - 2015 compared to forecast energy demand in the Electricity Planning VII.

In the implementation of energy development strategy, MOIT presided over the preparation of policies to support the development of renewable energy sources such as wind power, biomass power, electricity generated from solid wastes and solar power.

Besides, with the goal to improve the efficiency of natural resources, raw materials, fuel and materials; to reduce the emissions and limit the level of pollution; to protect and improve environmental quality, and human health and to ensure sustainable development, MOIT has implemented the strategy of cleaner production in industries for the phase 2010 - 2020, with some important results.

MOIT has also selected 14 tasks to assess the impact of climate change, sea level rise on the domains of Industry and Trade sector, so far it has prepared 13 technical reports to assess the impact of climate change, sea level rise on the industrial sector, sensitive trade and industry and proposed the response solutions .

Accordingly, these sectors have been mobilized including: industrial sectors: coal mining, chemical manufacturing, steel manufacturing, mining (titanium, iron and apatite), production infrastructure and  electricity transmission, hydropower industry, the production of paper and pulp, and in the commercial sector; the industrial development planning and business development planning (including infrastructure development planning and orientation); the issue of energy security in the context of climate change.

The Chairperson of National Target Program in response to climate change - the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong said that the Action Plan for National Target Program in response to climate change for the period 2010 - 2015 has completed 44 out of 48 tasks; the 4 remaining tasks should be completed in the final months of 2015.

Besides, MOIT also completed many mechanisms and policies to pave the way for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in the energy sector.
