Hoa Binh to support farmers in using biogas

28/01/2016

Hoa Binh Farmers Association and CCRD support farmers in making biogas plants, helping them access to renewable energy and sustainable agricultural practices.

Recently, Hoa Binh Farmers Association has cooperated with The Center for Rural Communities Research & Development (CCRD) to implement project “Access to renewable energy and sustainable agricultural practices in Hoa Binh 2015”. One of the project’s most important activities is to instruct local households to use biogas.

In particular, supporting activities for biogas plant making were carried out in 20 communes and towns of Moc Chau District. About 120 households were encouraged to join the project. In each district, a team was formed to give households instructions, technical support and financial assistance to make VACVINA biogas tunnels. Additionally, Farmers Association also worked with CCRD to organize training sessions of BIOVAC use in developing safe agricultural products, producing bio-mass from residues of agriculture etc.

Preliminary results show that biogas is the optimal choice in limiting greenhouse gas emissions and improve environmental quality of rural areas. Biogas plants have contributed significantly to handling animal waste, supplying gas and producing bio-mass in Moc Chau District. Up to now, 9 VACVINA plants and 100 Composite ones have been completed. Households have carefully followed technical instructions and produced 160 tons of bio-mass.

Deputy Director of Vocational Training and Supporting Center for Farmers, Bui Van Binh has showed his interest in replicating biogas model in the remaining areas of Hoa Binh Province, as this is an effective method to help farmers access to renewable energy and sustainable agricultural practices.
