Geographical setting of Cao Bang is mostly mountainous, with limited land available for habitation. Water resources here are plentiful but distributed unevenly. As a result, supplying drinking water to all residents of the province remains a huge problem to all governmental agencies.

According to Center for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, in the past, many people had to walk several kilometers to get drinking water. However, things have changed since Cao Bang Province implemented a lot of projects to provide people with drinking water using capital from National Target Program for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation and other sources. So far, 36 construction projects have been equipped with water-supply systems. Especially, 156 water tanks and other facilities were approved and will be built in 12 communes of Luc Khu area with the total investment of VND138,904,000,000.
In the near future, Cao Bang will make effort to increase the number of households that have access to drinking water to over 90%. It will also ensure that drinking water is available for 100% of schools, health care centers and headquarters of People’s Committee.
