As one of three companies of which products are labeled as “Vietnam Energy Star”, the Rang Dong Light Source And Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company proves its leading position in producing lighting equipment which has high quality, save energy and does less harms to the environment.

khanh.jpgLe Quoc Khanh, the deputy director of the Rang Dong Company said that the company started producing energy conservation lamps in 1998. After ten years of investment and preparation for equipment and workers, the company has owned one of the most advanced technologies for energy conservation equipment production. Having 14 production lines of compact lamps, Rang Dong Company is the biggest energy conservation lamp supplier in the domestic market.

In order to produce high quality products which are eco-friendly and save energy, the company has sound investment policies from production lines, equipment to human resources. The company’s products have been exported to difficult markets of the EU, America and Middle East countries.

In 2007, Rang Dong Company was the first company of which T8 fluorescent lamps were label as energy conservation products. However, at that time, the most difficult is how to introduce the product to the market. To produce energy conservation products, the company had to spend huge money on technology, therefore the price is more expensive than traditional ones. In addition, there are many fake energy conservation lamps which are illegally imported and sold at much lower prices.

Therefore, it is very difficult for energy conservation lamps to compete against fake products. Fake products have made serious influences on the company’s sales. Thus, labeling energy conservation products to help consumer distinguish from other products meets the demand of energy conservation equipment businesses. The Vietnam Energy Star label has paved a new development way for energy conservation products. The label has acted as a reliable form of government certification in terms of energy conservation products. The label helps consumers to distinguish fake products and choose the right energy conservation products.

To be labeled as a “Vietnam Energy Star”, the Rang Dong Company’s compact lamps meet strict standards and underwent tests on quality, endurance and energy conservation level according to Vietnam Standards TCVN 7986:2008. The company’s products which were labeled “Vietnam Energy Star” will encourage producers, importers and distributors to introduce energy conservation products to replace traditional electricity consuming products. In reality, the demand of energy conservation lamps is increasing. According to Khanh, in 2000, the rate of incandescent lamps and compact lamps of Rang Dong was 100/1 while the rate in 2009 was 100/50. Compact lamp sales have grown increasingly annually while traditional lamp sales are on the decline.

Khanh also said that at present, the company exports 4-5 percent of its products. The company plans to spend 1-2 percent of annual revenue to invest in energy conservation products. Rang Dong is striving for two targets, including high quality and lower prices to meet higher standards of energy conservation products. In the future, the company will continue researching to improve product quality and lower prices to dominate the domestic market and export their products.

Addressing at the ceremony of labeling “Vietnam Energy Star” in early September, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Le Duong Quang affirmed that the products which are labeled as conservation products must be under strict inspection of endurance, safety, influence to the environment and energy conservation. Therefore, consumers should choose “Vietnam Energy Star” products which not only bring benefits to consumers but also express their responsibility to the “Buy Vietnamese Goods” campaign.
