Hassan Younis, Egypt’s Electricity Minister, has mentioned that 2,500 MW of electricity would be generated and would get added to the national grid very soon. Currently, in Egypt, wind energy goes on to contribute 550 MW to the country’s power grid and it is anticipated that this figure would increase to 7,200 MW capacity by the year 2020.

The private sector in Egypt would be contributing 1,370 MW towards these power generation projects. The Gulf of Suez is an ideal place for constructing wind farms as the region experiences wind speeds at the rate of 9 to 10 meters every second, way ahead of European locations.
