Working in the public communication on electrical safety and economical and efficient power use, Duong Khang is one of the sales agents to record and collect electric bills of Thuan Bac Electricity (Ninh Thuan Power Company). For many years of operation, the agent has been affectionately called "Ama Khang" (Father Khang) by the Raglai ethnic people. In his work, he has always been performing the job with instructions for the people to use electricity safely and economically.
Innovative, exemplary in power saving
The geographical area of operation of Mr. Duong Khang is Cong Hai commune and part of Phuoc Chien commune (Thuan Bac district, Ninh Thuan province). The majority of households here are of the Raglai ethnic people. Due to the limited level of educational qualification and awareness, it is very hard to convey the knowledge on safety and economical use of electric power. He regularly takes the job of delivering the communication leaflets on electrical safety and the economical use of electricity, and encourages other agents to join in the job. They bring leaflets and flyers from door to door and give on-site instructions on how to use electrical devices with efficiency.
With a mission of electricity retailer, every day, Mr. Khang travels in his locality to record the metered consumption and collect the electricity bills. Wherever he goes, he communicates well with the people to encourage and instruct them how to use electrical equipment with safety and savings: to check if the people have practiced the use of energy-saving lights, used the electric power with reasonable frequency and safety or not.
The Raglai people would get up early, keep the lighting on to cook their lunch to bring it with them to the field for farming. When it is still dark, they often forget to turn off the lights. It is "Ama Khang" who has to travel all the way to turn off those lights. And he frequently reminds the people: "We have to save! The saving is for yourself and for the other people too". When a household increases their power consumption, he immediately reminds them of it "Hey there, this month the bill is much going up, you should attend to your power use for savings". He also instructs them to check the power wiring in the house, and to control devices that people frequently use every day.
Mr. Khang says : "Just instruct the people how to develop a good habit of "pushing the switch off button with a finger at the right time" is already a good participation in saving electricity. Saving electricity does not means saving the light, it actually means the use of electricity in a reasonable manner, not to waste".
Travelling like a shuttle on the roads, he would act as a bridge between customers and the electricity supplier. His work, simgple as it is, but helpful for local people, especially the Raglai people to understand the policy and practice the safe and economical use of electricity, a contribution into the "the hamlet, the neighborhood of power savings culture".
Mr. Le Hoang Dao, Deputy Director of Electricity of Thuan Bac in his assessment says: "Mr. Duong Khang is one of the sales agents who has been enthusiastic, diligent, and fond of his working unit. He usually accomplishes the assignments, he sets a typical example for communication in the field of safe and economical use of electricity".
