With the measures mentioned above, the company's initial investment was VND 350 million. From 2008 to now, Vinh Phu Shoes JSC has reduced electricity consumption by 40,000Kwh each year.

Vinh Phu Shoes JSC, formerly Viet Tri Leather Enterprise (Viet Tri City, Phu Tho), produces and sells in the market nearly 700,000 pairs of shoes of all kinds each year. With that scale, the production costs of the company, including energy cost, are enormous. Being aware of the potential to reduce production costs through energy saving, since in 2007, the company's leaders has made continuous improvement and innovations, saving hundreds of millions of VND each year.

According to Mr. Bui Manh Hung, Deputy Director of the company, energy saving solutions have not only helped saving raw materials and fuel consumption, reducing emissions but also helped the enterprise develop production, improve product quality and confirm the enterprise’s prestige. The solutions that the company has applied can be deployed widely in all enterprises in the footwear industry of Vietnam.

Previously, the consumption of electricity at the company was very wasteful. The reasons were the use of T10 lamps which consumed lots of electricity, inappropriate production equipment, broken capacitors and poor maintenance. Determining the causes of power loss, the factory leaders established a group of authorities in charge of making appropriate solutions to reduce power consumption.

Accordingly, the first solution performed in Vinh Phu Shoes JSC was to replace the lighting system. The entire T10 neon lights were replaced by energy saving T5, T8 compact lamps. Switches were installed separately for each bulb, each electric fan, depending on the need to use. The company also conducted the installation of capacitors for electric cabinets of each workshop. Old capacitors in transformers were also replaced. Each workshop, each department had its own meter for easy monitoring and shutting down.

In addition, the company had regularly organized training courses and propagation on power saving, raising the awareness of employees. Regulations on the time of switching off for devices such as electric fans, lights at the end of shifts or lunch time had also been issued. Especially since the company set the electricity usage norm for each workshop, electricity consumption had reduced markedly.

Through a survey which showed that power loss was due to heat loss, poor insulation and maintenance, the company had made regular equipment insulation and maintenance, repaired pneumatic pipelines to prevent leakage, replaced slack belts and insulated heat using devices.

With the measures mentioned above, the company's initial investment was VND 350 million. From 2008 to now, Vinh Phu Shoes JSC has reduced electricity consumption by 40,000Kwh each year.

In addition, the company has also actively implemented some large investment solutions to fully address the emerging environmental issues. Specifically, the company has invested over VND 900 million in the installation of a new air suction system, renovated and expanded solid waste storage and chemical storage. Each year, the company has saved VND 180 million, including VND 40 million on energy costs.
