Denmark to help Vietnam foster green growth

Up to 60 percent of the grant will be used in “green” fields, including effectively using water resources, clean water supply for the poor, wind energy and activities to cope with climate change, said John Nielsen, Danish Ambassador to Vietnam.

The ambassador said that Denmark has many advantages in using energy effectively, particularly recycled and clean energies like solar energy, energy produced from rubbish and biogas.

“Wind power projects require huge investments because this is modern technology. To solve this challenge, a Danish delegation will visit Vietnam. We will try to set up cooperation agreements between the two governments and businesses to implement wind power projects,” he said.

The ODA funding will be combined with transferring high quality, cost-effective and environmentally-friendly technologies from Danish companies to their Vietnamese partners in the waste management, solar energy and wind power sectors.

Speaking about Denmark’s investment in Vietnam’s nuclear power projects, which is also considered as green energy,” Nielsen said: “Denmark doesn’t aim at developing nuclear power. We only focus on other kinds of recycled energy. This decision is highly supported by our people”.

Since 1993 Denmark has been a key ODA partner for Viet Nam, providing more than $1.2 billion in ODA, which was provided to sectors including agriculture, water and sanitation, fisheries, justice and private business development.
